In this dual channel, video projected installation Middleton and Taylor updated and engaged in a dialogue with the strategies of mediation employed by David Rimmer in his 1970's Structuralist film classic Variations on a Cellophane Wrapper. The video footage in SOS continuously feeds off itself, degrading, morphing and colour shifting as images of the artists endlessly shake out a sheet of imitation cellophane. Issues of technological progress/process and labour within the new face of Global Capitalism come to the fore as the video and audio engulf the viewer.
Joel Taylor gave an artist talk on Tuesday, April 23 at 7pm in the Khyber Club.
